Support 9128 artists and labels via Currents.fm

Why support 9128?

  • Get exclusive access to previously aired live and DJ sets and be first to hear about future plans via our Currents.fm page

  • Help us create a sustainable platform that allows us to pay the artists and labels featured on the platform

  • Help us expand, literally, with more server space and bandwidth!

How do I support 9128?

We have partnered with Currents.fm, a ‘Patreon’ style platform that allows people to subscribe to the page and receive content in return. Currents is a relatively new platform but extremely focused on supporting the music community.

You can become a subscriber for as little as $2.50 per month, or whatever you feel comfortable paying. Jump over to our Currents.fm profile to see it in action.

What will we do with your $?

We see the support acting as a virtuous circle, and no money that is paid will be taken as profit for anyone at 9128 - it will go to artists and labels as a priority.

Monthly subscription totals from the Currents.fm page will be tallied and we will decide between a number of things to do with it:

  • Pay a one time fee to an artist for re-publish or re-stream their previously aired set or album only accessible on the Currents.fm channel.

  • Pay an artist or label a fee to premiere or publish exclusive material on 9128.live

  • Pay numerous artists or labels for a weekend takeover (similar to our previous ones)

  • Pay label collectives who are currently a part of the regular programming a fee for use of their music on 9128

We think the existing radio royalty model leaves much room for improvement in this space, and we hope this can be a way for us to put money back into artists hands that doesn’t look like a ridiculous 0.0049 payment.

In an ideal world, it would look like this:

We have a long way to go, but this is our ambition. Imagine we get $500 a month total from subscribers, we would pay:

- $100 to re-up a live set or DJ set to the Currents.fm page for your exclusive listening pleasure

- $150 to a "Partner" label and artists on the site who allow us to stream their music

- $100 to pay for a new, exclusive album premiere for everyone to listen to

- $100 to a special cause or charity that month that is close to us or the Partners

- $50 to 9128 for server/bandwidth etc

Or, maybe one month we go big and decide to pay $500 to one artist to come and play an amazing live set on 9128.live.

Why don’t we use Bandcamp for this?

We get this question a lot especially when a subscription service is considered. Bandcamp would be great if the content we posted was all artists’ own material, but some of the takeovers we feature here on 9128.live include DJ sets, so in those instances we can only make them available to stream, and not “for sale” like Bandcamp offers. Bandcamp is a place for selling your own music.

Thank you! You can support us on Currents.fm here.

How it works

You subscribe to our Currents.fm page for as little as $2.50 per month

Each month, we tally our subscription fees and pay an artist or label for content to either be hosted exclusively on our Currents.fm page, like re-runs of sets exclusively for you. Or, we will use the money to pay for new initiatives on 9128.live that everyone can experience.

You get to access this exclusive material on Currents for as long as you are a subscriber.

9128.live grows with new and better ideas and music thanks to your generous subscription.
